What is Resiliency?
“The process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or even significant sources of stress — such as family and relationship problems, serious health issues, mental health struggles or workplace and academic stressors.” – American Psychological Association
Neuroscience research shows that:
- Resilience can be learned and developed
- Highly resilient people respond to adversity with flexibility, bounce back faster, and bounce forward from challenges to find opportunities to problem solve.
- Developing resilience is a personal journey and every journey is different.
- Being resilient does not mean a person does not experience difficulty or distress.
- Resilience is an ongoing process that requires time and effort and engages people in taking the necessary steps to keep living
What is the Resilient Life Institute?
The Resilient Life Institute is an exclusive program of The FFC Center that promotes mental wellness and prevention through resiliency training classes. We help people to not only learn how to bounce back but to Bounce Forward!
As the world highlights the importance of making emotional wellness and mental health a priority, recent research has highlighted the value of utilizing different vehicles of fostering mental and emotional wellness. Within the field of mental health, we all understand that levels of care are necessary but the stigma surrounding mental health still reinforces people to wait until things get so bad that long-term support is almost a requirement to dig them out of the pit. With anxiety and depression at epidemic levels and an increasing suicide rate that plagues our society… Beefing up PREVENTION EFFORTS for sustaining mental health and wellness, especially when stress hits, is needed NOW.
